Article 29 Working Party: Opinion on the use of drones

The Article 29 Data Protection Working Party has published Opinion 01/2015 of June 16, 2015 on the use of drones. In view of the data protection risks associated with drone operations, it calls for the creation of a legal framework for the use of drones at national and European level. A set of rules for the responsible use of drones is also required.

In addition, the group recommends that the provisions for public video surveillance be applied to the use of drones if they are equipped with recording devices, and that electronic license plates or the publication of drone operators on a website would be useful for identifying drone operators.

In the case of large public events, the use of drones should also be pointed out.
