After the Federal Administrative Court, in its ruling of August 4, 2009, deemed the centralized storage of biometric data in the context of access control to a sports and leisure center to be a disproportionate violation of the privacy of the persons concerned (cf. our 17th Activity Report 2009/2010, para. 1.2.2), the KSS Sports Center is in the process of adapting its access system. In the future, biometric data will still be stored centrally. However, the reference to further personal data collected by the sports center is interrupted and can only be established with the help of the subscription card. This is in the possession of the customer. The centrally stored templates (encoded stored biometric raw data) are dynamically encrypted. Their decryption is only possible with the help of the subscription card, as part of the key is stored on this card.
