FDPIC – Data protection aspects of the use of RFID technology

Radio chips that can read and store data contactlessly and without visual contact using radio waves (so-called Radio Frequency Identification, RFID) are being used in an increasing number of application areas. While for certain areas there are no concerns for the use of RFID chips from a data protection perspective, in others there are significant risks for the privacy of the public. Therefore, when using RFID technology, precautions must always be taken to prevent unlawful processing of personal data.
