The deco­ding of the human geno­me repres­ents a new chall­enge for legis­la­tors. In par­ti­cu­lar, it is neces­sa­ry to gua­ran­tee infor­ma­tio­nal self-deter­mi­na­ti­on and to avo­id any dis­cri­mi­na­ti­on on the basis of gene­tic make­up. In the fol­lo­wing, some important prin­ci­ples of data pro­tec­tion are repro­du­ced, which have to be obser­ved when deal­ing with gene­tic examinations.
