Medical research requires a wide range of data, including personal data. More than any other area of scientific research, it relies on information that can be used to identify the individuals concerned. Only on the basis of the latter, for example, can a person immediately benefit from a new treatment, can multiple registrations of persons be detected, comparison groups set up, long-term studies carried out or additional questions asked.
