Accor­ding to reports (e.g. here and here), Ger­man aut­ho­ri­ties have recei­ved num­e­rous com­plaints about the use of Goog­le Ana­ly­tics – appar­ent­ly affec­ting around 200,000 cases across Germany.

The back­ground to this is the lack of cla­ri­ty – within the scope of the GDPR – as to whe­ther or under what con­di­ti­ons the use of Goog­le Ana­ly­tics can be based on a legi­ti­ma­te inte­rest and when con­sent is requi­red (pro memo­ria: The ECJ recent­ly ruled i.S. Planet49, like any con­sent to the use of coo­kies is to be obtai­ned, but not, when that is necessary).
