According to Communication from the Data Protection Office of the Principality of Liechtenstein dated January 7, 2019. the totally revised Data Protection Act (DPA) has been in force since January 1, 2019. Liechtenstein made use of the leeway granted to national legislatures by the opening clauses of the GDPR.
The structure and content of the totally revised DPA follow the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) as a template. The draft was not followed, among other things, with regard to the special obligation to appoint a data protection officer pursuant to Article 37 (4) of the GDPR (Section 38 of the Federal Data Protection Act).
