- SPK‑N proposes a motion to split the data protection revision in stages, decision by the National Council will be made in the summer session.
- A minority calls for the entire bill to be referred back to the committee for full consultation.
- First part (Schengen amendments) adopted with 18:0 votes; SPK‑N plans hearings on the total revision of the Data Protection Act.
In January 2018, the SPK‑N voted in favor of a motion of order for the attention of the National Council, which provides for the division of the data protection revision bill into two stages. The National Council will discuss the Summer session deal with the adaptations of the Schengen Directive and also decide whether to give the Approves the motion to implement the proposed revision in stages.. A minority of the SPK‑N proposes that the National Council refer the entire bill back to the committee with the instruction that the revision of data protection law be discussed in its entirety. The summer session therefore remains to be seen.
On 12/13 April 2018, the SPK‑N discussed the first part, the necessary adjustments to the requirements of the Schengen Directive (and adopted the adjustments by 18 votes to 0 with 4 abstentions). It would now like to tackle the second stage of the bill, the total revision of the Data Protection Act, straight away. To this end, it will hold hearings at one of its next meetings.
