Criminal Records Act (14.053): Parliament regulates access to criminal records in a new way (revision of differences completed)

In its deliberations on the Business 14,053 (Criminal Records Act, VOSTRA) settled the last differences (meeting of 13.6.2016) (Media release). The business is now ready for the final vote in parliament.

Unlike the Federal Council had proposed, the entry in the criminal register is to remain for life not only for life sentences, but also for certain serious violent and sexual offenses. The planned corporate criminal register will be dropped in its place. With regard to data protection, there will now be not just one but four different excerpts from the criminal register in order to regulate access to the required information in a more granular and thus more proportionate manner. Private individuals will also be able to request information from the authorities about queries concerning them.
