FDPIC: Mea­su­res for the secu­re use of audio and video con­fe­ren­cing solutions

The FDPIC has with date of April 9, 2020 a fact sheet on the safe use of audio and video con­fe­ren­cing solu­ti­ons published.

He recom­mends fol­lo­wing mea­su­res (Cita­ti­ons; each with addi­tio­nal explanations):

  • Do not share mee­ting IDs publicly
  • Use uni­que mee­ting IDs and lock meetings
  • Always use mee­ting pass­words if possible
  • Always keep an eye on the mee­ting participants
  • Always announ­ce a mee­ting recording
  • Bewa­re of phis­hing here too
  • Cover came­ra when not in use and check recor­ding area
  • Screen pre­sen­ta­ti­on / screen sharing
  • Check pri­va­cy poli­cy of the provider

At the Eva­lua­ti­on, plan­ning and pre­pa­ra­ti­on of an audio and video con­fe­ren­cing solu­ti­on, the fol­lo­wing points should be noted (again quo­tes, each with addi­tio­nal explanations):

  • Learn repu­ta­ti­on of a supplier
  • Check pri­va­cy poli­cy of the provider
  • Pro­vi­der hand­ling of metadata
  • Encryp­ti­on of the data
  • Phy­si­cal security
  • Safe­ty controls
  • Cus­to­mi­ze pri­va­cy settings
